Modern construction methods have a major impact on the natural environment and the move to more sustainable, green building represents a significant challange to the industry. But it also provides many exciting opportunities and Rhino Roofing & Cladding support the aims of organisations such as the Green Building Councils, LEED, BREAM in the world-wide drive towards sustainability.

Irish Green Building Council

The Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) is a member of a not-for-profit, coalition of over 90 national Green Building Councils around the world. Their aim is to “lower the cost of running public buildings, increase the efficiency of service delivery and help create the right environment to retain and foster the brightest talent.”

BREEAM

Developed in 1990 the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is the longest established environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings. Because it was created in Britain it is the scheme most closely aligned with Irish building standards and therefore the easiest system to implement.

US Green Building Council

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is one of the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Developed by the US Green Building Council, the LEED programme provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and has been growing in popularity in Ireland over the past number of years, particularly amongst US multinationals
